UEFA fine English FA and FAI for national anthem booing
UEFA has issued fines to both the English Football Association (FA) and the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) after fans booed national anthems before the Republic of Ireland faced England in a Nations League match in September.
The FA was fined £10,500 (€12,500) after England supporters booed "Amhrán na bhFiann" at Aviva Stadium. The FAI received a £8,400 (€10,000) fine after home fans booed "God Save the King." The FA’s penalty was higher due to it being a repeat offense for England fans.
Additionally, UEFA fined the FAI £7,800 (€9,250) for the use of flares and £5,000 (€6,000) for a spectator pitch invasion. The FA received an additional fine of £4,150 (€5,000) for a fan entering the field.
England won the match on September 7, 2-0, with goals from Jack Grealish and Declan Rice.
