West Ham winger Kudus has ban extended

West Ham United winger Mohammed Kudus’s suspension has been extended to five matches, and he’s been fined £60,000 ($77,286) for violent conduct during last month’s Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur, the FA announced Wednesday.

Kudus initially received a three-match ban after a red card in West Ham’s 4-1 loss to Spurs, ruling him out of games against Manchester United, Nottingham Forest, and Everton. After further review, an independent Regulatory Commission extended his ban to include West Ham’s matches against Newcastle on November 25 and Arsenal on November 30.

The incident occurred in the 82nd minute of the Spurs match when Kudus fouled defender Micky van de Ven and then pushed both Van de Ven and Pape Matar Sarr in the face. A VAR check upgraded Kudus’s initial yellow card to a red. The 24-year-old later apologized to the commission, expressing embarrassment over his actions.

West Ham was also fined £30,000 for failing to control their players during the altercation, while Tottenham was fined £20,000. In a statement, West Ham said they were “disappointed with the outcome” but respected the FA’s decision.
