Arturo Vidal and team mates under assault investigation
Chilean authorities announced Monday that they are investigating a reported sexual assault involving players from the Colo Colo soccer club, including former international star Arturo Vidal.
According to the Santiago prosecutor's office, the alleged incident occurred at a bar in the upscale Vitacura neighborhood in Santiago. A woman claimed her sister was drugged and sexually assaulted by Colo Colo players.
A police spokesperson confirmed that Vidal, 37, was brought to a Vitacura police station, where he underwent an "investigative identity check," a routine procedure for suspects in criminal cases. Vidal was released following the check but did not comment on the allegations.
Police reported that other players also went through similar procedures and have provided statements regarding the incident.
Additionally, a Santiago court on Monday released another former Chilean international, Jorge Valdivia, who had been arrested on October 22 in connection with a rape investigation. Valdivia, 41, is accused of raping a woman two days prior but has denied any involvement.
