Liverpool FC crack down on ticket fraud

Liverpool FC has taken significant steps to combat ticket touting, shutting down close to 100,000 fake ticketing accounts last season and issuing 75 lifetime bans along with 136 indefinite suspensions. This extensive action underscores the club’s zero-tolerance approach toward unauthorized ticket sales.

The deactivated accounts included those flagged during investigations, as well as accounts blocked from accessing sales or ballots due to suspicious online behavior or indications of automated bot activity. An additional 5,670 accounts are currently under review by the club, as they are linked to questionable activity, including connections with individuals recently charged by Merseyside Police for ticketing fraud. Across the 2023-24 season, Liverpool cancelled 1,500 tickets from account holders already under sanctions, making these tickets available for resale to genuine fans.

The vast majority of lifetime bans and indefinite suspensions were due to the unauthorized resale of season tickets, memberships, or hospitality packages, all violations of the club’s terms and conditions. This enforcement reflects Liverpool’s strict anti-touting policies, ensuring fair access to tickets for loyal supporters. In 2024, the club continues to boost its anti-touting efforts by expanding online security, deploying more on-the-ground resources, and dedicating increased internal support to tracking and blocking unauthorized sales.

Liverpool also reminds fans to buy tickets only through official club channels or authorized partners to avoid falling victim to fraud, as cases of counterfeit or fraudulently sold tickets have risen, particularly online. To ensure ticket authenticity, fans should purchase general admission tickets directly from Liverpool FC and official hospitality packages either through the club or designated match break partners, which are listed on Liverpool’s website.

Fans are encouraged to report any suspicious ticket activity to Liverpool FC or Action Fraud, and can find detailed information on the club’s sanctions and anti-touting procedures online.
