RB Leipzig Part Ways with Head Coach Marco Rose Following Borussia Mönchengladbach Defeat
March 30, 2025
RB Leipzig have officially parted ways with head coach Marco Rose after their disappointing loss to Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday. The defeat has left Leipzig in sixth place in the Bundesliga, though they remain just three points away from securing a Champions League qualification spot for next season.
Rose exits the club after a tenure spanning two and a half years, during which he guided the team to victory in the 2023 DFB-Pokal. His departure also sees the exit of his coaching staff, including Alexander Zickler, Marco Kurth, and Frank Geideck, as well as head of first-team football, Frank Aehlig.

Marcel Schäfer, Managing Director for Sport, on the Decision:
“We maintained our faith in Marco and his team for a long time, working tirelessly to overcome our challenges together. However, given the team’s recent trajectory and the continued lack of desired results, we collectively believe that a change is necessary to reinvigorate our campaign and achieve our season objectives. We sincerely thank Marco and his coaching staff for their dedication, the successes we shared, and their contributions to the club.”
Marco Rose took charge of RB Leipzig in September 2022 at a critical juncture for the club. Overseeing 125 matches during his tenure, he led Leipzig to consecutive UEFA Champions League qualifications, a historic second DFB-Pokal title, and their first-ever Supercup triumph.
RB Leipzig are expected to announce an interim head coach in the coming days as they look to stabilize their season and push for a top-four finish.
