Matheus Cunha Handed Extra Suspension and Fine Following FA Cup Red Card
March 25, 2025
Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha has received an additional one-game suspension and a £50,000 fine following his red card during Wolves’ FA Cup clash against Bournemouth. The decision, confirmed by the English Football Association (FA) on Friday, comes after the Brazilian admitted to acting in an improper manner after his dismissal.
Cunha was sent off in the final moments of extra time after a heated altercation with Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez. The 25-year-old lashed out at the Hungarian left-back multiple times, leading to a straight red card. His initial three-match suspension for violent conduct has now been extended to four games, meaning he will miss Wolves’ Premier League fixture against Ipswich Town on April 5. He will be eligible to return when Wolves face Tottenham Hotspur on April 13.

This is Cunha’s second disciplinary issue of the season. In January, he served a two-match ban after an incident involving an Ipswich Town security staff member, during which he grabbed the official’s glasses following a Premier League defeat in December.
Currently on international duty with Brazil, Cunha will also be unavailable for Wolves' upcoming league matches against West Ham United and Ipswich Town. His absence adds to Wolves' challenges as they fight to maintain their Premier League status, sitting 17th in the table, nine points above the relegation zone.
