Mohamed Salah has set his sights on securing another Premier League title for Liverpool as he approaches what he suggests may be his final season at Anfield. The 32-year-old Egyptian superstar, whose form this season has been nothing short of extraordinary, is leading the Premier League in both goals and assists, with 17 and 13 respectively. Despite his personal brilliance, Salah’s future at the club remains shrouded in uncertainty as his contract edges closer to its June 2025 expiration.
Liverpool currently sits six points clear at the top of the Premier League table with a game in hand, and Salah is resolute in his mission to crown his Liverpool career with another league title. Reflecting on his goals for the season, Salah revealed to Sky Sports that winning the Premier League is his ultimate ambition.
"The first thing on my list this season was to win the Premier League with Liverpool," Salah said. "In the past, I always said the Champions League was my priority, but this year it’s different. We waited 30 years for that first title, and we couldn’t celebrate it properly because of the pandemic. This time, I want to win it again, with the fans, and make it special for the city."
Salah joined Liverpool in 2017 and has since been a central figure in the club’s most successful period in decades. Under former manager Jurgen Klopp, he helped Liverpool win the Premier League in 2020, their first in 30 years, alongside triumphs in the Champions League, FA Cup, and other major tournaments. Yet, Salah believes the team needs another Premier League title to cement their legacy as one of the greatest sides in the club’s history.
"My motivation this year is to win another trophy, and especially the Premier League," Salah explained. "We’ve won almost everything, but we’ve only won the Premier League once. Winning it again would solidify our place in history."
Salah also highlighted the importance of the team’s core players, who have been the backbone of Liverpool’s success over recent years. "There’s still a strong group of us left—myself, Trent [Alexander-Arnold], Virgil [Van Dijk], Alisson, Robbo [Andy Robertson]. It’s essential for us to win another trophy before we all eventually move on."
Despite his remarkable form, Salah’s future at Anfield remains unresolved. Discussions over a new contract have reportedly stalled, with no progress made in recent months. Salah has been candid about the situation, acknowledging that this could indeed be his last season with the club.
"So far, yes, this is my last season," Salah admitted. "We’re far away from any progress in negotiations, so we’ll just have to wait and see."
The uncertainty extends to other key players as well, with Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk also nearing the end of their contracts. However, Salah remains focused on his performances, determined not to let off-field matters affect his contributions to the team.
"I want to look back at this season and say I had an unbelievable year," he said. "I don’t want to be distracted by my contract situation. My focus is entirely on helping the team win."
This season, Salah has embraced a leadership role within the squad, particularly following the departures of long-serving players like James Milner and Jordan Henderson. As one of the senior figures in the team, Salah has taken it upon himself to mentor younger players and foster a winning mentality.
"I’ve started talking to the younger players more, trying to help them stay calm and focused," Salah explained. "You can’t win the Premier League alone. It’s about working together and helping others improve. That’s part of my role now."
Salah’s commitment to setting an example extends beyond advice. "I still come to the gym first and leave last," he said. "I lead by example, but I also try to be available for conversations. If the younger players want to learn, I’m here to share my experience."
Liverpool’s resurgence this season has been fueled by tactical adjustments introduced by new manager Arne Slot. Salah credited Slot’s fresh approach with reinvigorating the team, which struggled for consistency in recent seasons.
"The new manager has brought a different perspective," Salah said. "With Jurgen [Klopp], we had one system that we stuck to for years. Slot has introduced more flexibility, and it’s helped us adapt and stay motivated."
Salah also acknowledged that Slot’s tactical tweaks have allowed him to take on greater responsibility within the team. "The way we play now relies on me a bit more, and that’s helped me express myself and improve my game," he noted.
Salah’s individual performances this season have been nothing short of historic. His 30 goal involvements in just 18 league games represent the fastest such tally in Premier League history. Additionally, his total of 52 goal involvements across all competitions in 2024 is unmatched by any player in Europe’s top leagues.
Despite his personal accolades, Salah remains focused on team success. "I don’t want to finish the season with great numbers but no trophies," he said. "Winning the Premier League is what matters most."
As Liverpool prepares for a crucial clash against Manchester United, Salah’s determination to lead the Reds to glory remains unwavering. Whether this season will mark the end of his Anfield journey or the beginning of a new chapter, Salah is determined to leave his mark by delivering a Premier League title—and perhaps, the celebration Liverpool fans have been waiting for.
