Juventus have parted ways with manager Thiago Motta following a string of disappointing results, naming former player Igor Tudor as his successor.
Motta, who took charge last summer, saw his tenure unravel after back-to-back crushing defeats— a 4-0 home loss to Atalanta followed by a 3-0 setback at Fiorentina. These results left the club sitting fifth in Serie A, one point outside the Champions League spots and 12 points adrift of league leaders Inter Milan.
The Italian giants also suffered early exits from cup competitions, crashing out of the Champions League playoff round against PSV Eindhoven in February and later bowing out of the Coppa Italia quarter-finals to Empoli after a penalty shootout.
"Juventus FC announces that Thiago Motta has been relieved of his duties as head coach," the club stated on Sunday. "The team will now be led by Igor Tudor, who will oversee training starting tomorrow."
Motta, 42, joined Juventus on a three-year contract after guiding Bologna to a top-four finish last season. Despite an impressive 21-match unbeaten streak earlier in the campaign, his side struggled to convert draws into wins, ultimately falling out of the title race. His rigid managerial approach also led to key departures, including Federico Chiesa’s move to Liverpool last summer.
Tudor, 46, brings experience both as a former Juventus player and coach. The Croatian defender spent nearly a decade at the club and later served as Andrea Pirlo’s assistant in 2020. He has since managed teams like Udinese, Hellas Verona, Marseille, and Lazio, where he had a brief spell last season.
Tudor’s first match at the helm will be against Genoa at home on Saturday as Juventus look to salvage their campaign under new leadership.
