Real Valladolid’s turbulent season reached new depths on Sunday, as internal tensions erupted during a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Getafe. A dramatic altercation on the bench between teammates Luis Pérez and Juanmi Latasa highlighted the unrest within the LaLiga's bottom-placed side.
The incident unfolded in the 66th minute at Estadio José Zorrilla with Valladolid trailing 3-0 and down to 10 men following a red card to Mario Martín late in the first half. Broadcast footage captured a heated argument between defender Pérez and forward Latasa—who had already been substituted—before Pérez appeared to attempt a physical attack.
Swiss international Eray Cömert, seated between the two, quickly stepped in to restrain Pérez, who was seen reaching over to strike Latasa. A member of the coaching staff intervened, and Pérez soon left the bench, heading straight to the dressing room. Just minutes later, Getafe added a fourth through Domingos Duarte, compounding Valladolid’s misery.
The club issued a swift response after the match, condemning the incident and confirming disciplinary action would be taken against both players.
"Real Valladolid wishes to express its strong condemnation of the incident that occurred on the bench between Luis Pérez and Juan Miguel Latasa during the match against Getafe," the club said in a statement. "We deeply regret the image presented by our players. The frustration stemming from our current sporting situation must be redirected into commitment and professionalism—not conflict."
