Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham is set to miss crucial matches in both La Liga and the Champions League following a dramatic Wednesday that saw him sanctioned twice in a matter of hours.
Earlier in the day, Spanish football authorities confirmed a two-game suspension for the England midfielder after he allegedly directed offensive language at the referee during Madrid’s 1-1 draw against Osasuna on Saturday. Bellingham, who argued that his remarks were made in frustration at himself rather than the official, saw his appeal dismissed, meaning he will sit out Real Madrid’s upcoming fixtures against Girona and Real Betis. However, the club has indicated plans to appeal the decision once again.
Later that evening, during Madrid’s Champions League clash with Manchester City, Bellingham found himself in further trouble. The 21-year-old received his third yellow card of the tournament for a foul on fellow England international Phil Foden, triggering an automatic one-match suspension. As a result, he will be unavailable for the first leg of Madrid’s round-of-16 tie against either Atlético Madrid or Bayer Leverkusen, should the team progress past City.
The disciplinary setbacks have put a dent in what has been an otherwise impressive season for Bellingham, who has played a pivotal role for Los Blancos. His suspension in both domestic and European competition now presents a challenge for manager Carlo Ancelotti, who will have to navigate key fixtures without one of his most influential players.
Despite these setbacks, Real Madrid remains focused on their Champions League ambitions, hoping to overcome Manchester City and continue their pursuit of European glory. Meanwhile, Bellingham will have to watch from the sidelines as his teammates take on the challenge without him.
