Fiorentina’s Edoardo Bove rushed to hospital after collapsing on pitch

Fiorentina midfielder Edoardo Bove is in intensive care after collapsing during his team’s Serie A match against Inter Milan on Sunday.

The incident occurred in the 16th minute, leading to the suspension and eventual abandonment of the match.

In a statement, Fiorentina confirmed that Bove, 22, is "under pharmacological sedation and hospitalized in intensive care." The club added that his condition would be reassessed within 24 hours.

"He arrived at the emergency room in stable hemodynamic conditions, and initial cardiological and neurological tests have ruled out acute damage to the central nervous and cardio-respiratory systems," the statement read.

Bove’s collapse prompted immediate concern, with players from both teams urgently calling for medical assistance and forming a protective circle around him. He was stretchered off the pitch and taken to a waiting ambulance, while the referee directed the teams to leave the field.

Bove joined Fiorentina on a season-long loan from Roma in August, with an option to make the move permanent. He scored his first goal for Fiorentina in October against his parent club. At the international level, Bove has represented Italy up to the under-21 team but has not yet made a senior appearance.

Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso offered words of support: “Forza Edoardo, we’re with you. You’re a strong boy with great character. Our thoughts are with his family during this time.”

Inter president Giuseppe Marotta also expressed solidarity, telling Sky Italia: “Inter and the entire football community stand with Bove’s family and Fiorentina. Postponing the match was a collective and heartfelt decision. Everyone, including the referee, was emotionally affected. We hope for positive news.”

Messages of support poured in from across the football world. Bove’s teammate, goalkeeper David de Gea, posted on social media: “God, please,” accompanied by a prayer hands emoji. Roma, his parent club, wrote: “One of us, we are all with you.”

Serie A’s official account echoed the sentiment: “Forza Edoardo. We’re all with you.”

Fiorentina, currently third in Serie A and level on points with Inter, await updates on Bove’s condition as the football world rallies around him.
